Tall Ships Viking Parade, Scalloway Shetland

It was a bit different attending the Tall Ship Viking parade in Scalloway as we normally see these processions in the winter at Up Helly aa

However it was still excellent and all the Viking troops attended giving it a  unique look

Parking was the biggest problem but safety was well controlled

                                                              The Lerwick brass band attended

              100's of people attended the parade, probably more that the Up Helly Aa in January

 

Shetland Tallships

An exciting week in Shetland as the Tall ships arrive. Only a few in Lerwick as others visit different ports around the isles

The weather was mixed as we visited last night, just before the erect barriers around the area

Lots of visiting yachts in the harbour mostly from Norway, Germany and England

An unknow visitor at Hay's Dock

                                              This is the tallest, Tall ship in The Tallship race

It was a very muscial event as they arrived with lots of drums playing

A few local boats managed to get a berth

This visiting cruise liner arrived at 8pm and then had its own musical event as the Shetland Fiddlers boarded 

This person rolled down the pier from one end to the other

The band had a 45min practice beside the ship in preparation for the parade

What a great sound which attracted a good few people who lived in Lerwick
