Winter down at Leebitton , Sandwick, Shetland

Being so close to Sandlodge at Leebitton in Sandwick its good to be able to photograph the same place at different times

We have had a lot of stormy weather and if the wind comes from the east Sandsayre gets battered. I got drenched on this occasion

The virus is again making an impact with cases going up most days in Shetland. The advice of staying close to home is not a bad thing. It contains the virus and it gives you chance to explore familiar local areas in more depth (Exercise period)

While some people will ignore this advice putting others at risk its the most sensible thing to do. Once we have had the jab and reduced contact with others, for now, things will start to get back to normal

Still looking for a pot of gold

Plenty of splish, splash and splosh to keep me busy

Sanick, Shetland

Enjoyable walk round Sanick a small part of Sandwick. The weather was beautiful with very little wind

Sanick Church
Old house

View south towards Sumburgh
Circular part of the walk

From Thursday we can at last go a bit further a field, so hoping we can get down to Sumburgh providing weather is ok.

Looks like a lot of holiday companies have already gone bust with more to come. No ferries or planes as yet. Still a number of folk waiting to move to Shetland, some without jobs and one couple has resold their house twice since the lock down.

Food supplies seem ok but the number of folk going to the supermarket has increased at the time we go. Some shops planning to open soon, just wonder how many will be left. Schools too, although many parents have reservations about sending their children.

Lets hope there is no second spike we all want to get back to normal as soon as possible, will miss our trip south this year.

Scalloway Up Helly Aa 2021 has already been cancelled, a lot of work goes into building the galley and preparing the outfits and as no one will have been able to attend the meetings not enough time will be left to get things ready. Is that the first of many?

I still dont know when I can restart delivering the photography courses, one is half finished but it could be the end of the year before I recommence.

Staying local in Shetland

Lockdown continues but according to the police there are still some that are still having parties or going by car to places for a walk. Now Police are now enforcing movement restrictions

A number of cars parked up at St Ninian's had Police notices places on windscreens, Police have stopped a number of people in cars and on foot and parties broken up

Northlink have refused 23 people after checking why they have to travel.

All the photos included in this blog are of Sandwick, taken before the lockdown

Yesterday and especially today have been warm and sunny all day and having retired from work yesterday it was time to get into the garden to start the spring clean

After 50 years of work you always wonder if you will find enough to do but I have a lot of things lined up. Anyway stay safe and I will post again soon
